Freeport One-Day Trip
See Tourism, Industry and Nature Blend.
Since it's inception in 1955 the Hawksbill Creek Agreement has encouraged industrial growth in Grand Bahama. This contract between the Government of the Bahamas and Mr Wallace Groves established a city and free trade zone with an aim of spurring economic development in Freeport. The Grand Bahama Port Authority (Ltd.) was created to develop and administer the land. The city of Freeport was planned and built from scratch as a consequence. What has been the results?
Begin with a Tour of downtown Freeport, the Perfume Factory and International Bazaar. Examine the flora at the Garden of the Groves. Outside the Freeport area you will visit Eight Mile Rock and West End. Finally, see the industrial area...
Optional:
East End Tour - Free Town (where slaves lived after being freed, McLean's Town (sleepy fishing village & home of Conch Cracking Contest), High Rock - stop roadside and purchase freshly baked native bread, coconut tart & souvenirs from a local, and lunch in High Rock cracked conch, chicken & fries with drink for students and fish, crack conch & fries with drink for adults.
